Services - Home Visit
We strive to find the world's most beautiful rugs and carpets and we hope that this website will be an
introduction to the wonderful world of weaving.
Within the website you will find many images and examples of different carpet types and we hope
that you can use this as a resource to help your selection process.
We also excel in finding the correct rug for a specific space, for more than thirty five years we have
visited clients in their own homes or businesses to show carpets and rugs and would be delighted if
you would choose us to help you find the right rug for your requirements.
Please visit us at our gallery in The Old Parsonage, or let us do all the hard work and come to you.
Firstly a home visit is arranged and we will visit you to see what room you are looking to place a
carpet or rug in. We will then determine the correct size, design and colours that would compliment
the space and suit your own personal requirements. Following this we will then bring a varied
selection of pieces for you to see on your own floor.
Furthermore if you have a specific enquiry, you can email us your requirements and we will
endeavour to help you as soon as possible.
Please visit Our Portfolio to view previously sold carpets in situ.
Services - Cleaning Details
Professional cleaning of an oriental rug is recommended every 7 to 10 years, mainly to remove the grit
and dust which inevitably ends up at the bottom of the pile. Modern vacuum hoovers do a fabulous job
of removing surface dust, but you can be certain that if you were to take your rug outside and beat
it with an old fashioned cane carpet beater that more dust would emerge!
Following the intensive dust removal, the surface of the rug must be cleaned with a very mild shampoo.
All work is carried out by hand.
If you spill something on your carpet in most instances it can be removed, but please do not try anything
other than water to clean any stains. Our advise is to blot as much of the stain out as possible, you should
use clean absorbent paper on each application and do not be afraid to use a lot of pressure.
If the stain has left a mark or it went unnoticed until it had dried, please do nothing more than contact
us, we will be happy to help.

Services - Restoration
If a rug requires restoration then it has to be trusted to a professional. There are six main areas in which
a rug can be damaged -
• Chemical changes
• Exposure to light
• Insect or Microbial attack
• Exposure to moisture
• Exposure to heat
• Incorrect storage or display
Restoration of a rug strives to return the rug to it's original condition. We have workshop
facilities both here in the UK, Iran and Turkey and you can be assured that the upmost care
and the best restoration techniques are used to revive your rug to it's original state. Our
Surrey based workshop has been run for more than 30 years by the same restorer who is
obviously a great asset to us, so all your restorations can be carried out to a very
high standard.
The weakest part of a rug is always the ends and sides and these need to be inspected on
a yearly basis to be sure that they are not deteriorating in any way, as a loose fringe
can in a very short time start eating into the pile of a carpet and affect it's value
instantly. We have done repairs to carpets which have been badly flood damaged and have lost their
shape, or at the other end of the scale, carpets which have been burned through by a stray
log from the fire, but in all cases the results have been invisible to the observer.
Please contact us with your repair requirements and we will be happy to assess what work
needs undertaking and the cost involved.
Services - Underlay
Using the correct underlay is paramount to the longevity of your carpet.
Rugs on carpeted (or wall to wall) floors can move or creep about which is both irritating and can
cause damage to your rug. The rug can rise into a crease which is then walked upon as it is the
highest point of the flooring, we often see rugs worn in 'ridges' which is an obvious identifier for a
rug not sitting flat.
On a polished wooden floor, the rug can become a very dangerous slip hazard, so we would always
supply an underlay suitable for the type of wood you have. Many older underlays used to damage
wooden floors by in fact gripping or sticking to the wax on the surface which would be stripped off
when the underlay is moved. Modern techniques and materials have created some wonderful
products which are both very good at their primary purpose but will cause no damage to their
surroundings at all.
Stone floors can be a source of wear to a carpet if for example the stones are not laid smooth, old
flagstone floors for example can have some very obvious ridges between adjacent stones between
the mortar. This will cause a rug to wear prematurely, and can be overcome by using a slightly
thicker stiffer underlay which changes the abrupt change in height to a far smoother curve, hence
stopping the wear lines in their tracks.
Once correctly laid an underlay will be good for at least ten years and we carry the full range of
underlays for each floor surface.
Underlay is £18 sq/m
Services - Valuations
Being members of BADA and LAPADA we are able to offer a valuation service which is approved
by all insurers.
If you have an article in which you are interested, but know very little of it's history and would like
to know more, then please don't hesitate to contact us. Or if you are in the unfortunate position of
having either a fire theft or flood, we can complete a valuation with good quality photographic
images supplied.
We love to see unusual things and are keen to help if we can, so if you require a verbal valuation we
would do this within our Crondall gallery without charge, if you cannot get to us, send us an image
and we will try to decipher as much as we can from what you send us.
We keep a record of all our customers rugs in a secure location, so if the worst should happen we
can call up details and current values in a matter of minutes.
The price for a written valuation for insurance is £100 + VAT
